Virtual trade mission of the regions of the Ural Federal District and Texas

On June 30, 2020, a virtual trade mission of the official and business circles of the Tyumen, Sverdlovsk, Chelyabinsk regions and the state of Texas took place, organized by the Ural Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the American-Russian Chamber of Commerce with the participation of the Russian Embassy in the USA, the US Embassy in Russia, the US Consulate General in Yekaterinburg. The distance did not prevent the parties from fruitful communication between the parties, which lasted almost three hours.

The Deputy Governor of the Tyumen Region Andrey Panteleev took part in the virtual trade mission. The Deputy Governor presented the industrial and investment potential of the Tyumen region, outlined the main areas of cooperation between the Tyumen region and the state of Texas.

Recall that the Tyumen region and the state of Texas have been cooperating for a quarter of a century, starting in 1995, when an agreement was signed to establish twinning relations between the cities of Houston and Tyumen. Cooperation with Houston and other US states is carried out: in the field of mutual trade, implementation of investment projects, joint scientific and educational student and youth programs.

The United States of America has been one of the main foreign trade partners of the Tyumen region for many years. Mutual trade between the Tyumen region and the United States in 2019 amounted to almost 103 million US dollars, of which exports - 60 million US dollars, imports - 43 million US dollars. We mainly import equipment, mechanical devices, electrical equipment, optical apparatus and ferrous metals from the USA. For export we supply refined products, electrical machinery and equipment, timber and ferrous metal products.

Such well-known American companies as Schlumberger Schlumberger, Baker-Hughes BakerHughes, Halliburton Halliburton operate in the Tyumen Region.

Andrey Panteleev invited Texas companies to become members of the Tyumen Oblast oil industry cluster, which unites oil and gas engineering and oilfield service enterprises. A similar cluster has developed and is successfully operating in Houston.

The Deputy Governor of the Tyumen Region proposed to continue meetings in online and offline formats, and also invited Texas and American enterprises to take part in the Tyumen Oil and Gas Forum on September 22-24, an effective platform for experts in the oil and gas industry. The American participants of the virtual trade mission supported the ideas of the Tyumen region leadership.

The proposal to the official and business circles of the Ural Federal District to visit the state of Texas was made by: Andrew Pidgirsky, partner / representative of Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith and Michael Trailer, Deputy Director of the Department of Business Development, Economics and Tourism of the Office of the Governor of Texas.

The virtual trade mission was attended by representatives of about 70 American companies, including: Baker Hughes, Lukoil Pan Americas, Neftegaz Holding America, United Air, Schlumberger and others.

Emerson, which has a regional office in Chelyabinsk, presented its products and informed about its successful work in many regions of Russia and its readiness to expand cooperation.

Paul Pavlow, Dean of the University of Houston Business College, suggested establishing direct contacts with universities and colleges of the Ural Federal District, intensifying exchanges of students, graduate students, teachers, participating in scientific and practical conferences, and implementing joint research projects.

Vice President of Tech Trans International Inc. Natasha Robarge offered consulting and marketing services, organization of bilateral business missions to the US states and regions of Russia.

Summing up the online forum, the American moderator quoted Winston Churchill as saying A pessimist sees difficulties in every opportunity; an optimist sees opportunities in every difficulty. "

Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov noted that all those present at the meeting are positive-minded optimists who are taking steps towards each other and bilateral cooperation.
