Cooperation with the United States of America

The United States of America is one of the important trading partners of the Tyumen region.

According to the Ural Customs Administration, the foreign trade turnover of the Tyumen region with the United States of America for 2019 amounted to $ 102,943.74 thousand , of which exports amounted to $ 60,118.45 thousand , import - $ 42,825.29 thousand. .

For reference: the foreign trade turnover of the Tyumen region with the United States for 2018 amounted to 203 745.87 thousand US dollars , of which export amounted to 140 810.26 thousand US dollars , import - 62 935.61 thousand US dollars .

The predominant product groups in the export structure are: petroleum products; electrical machinery and equipment; plywood; in the structure of imports, the main share falls on equipment and mechanical devices; instruments, optical devices and electrical engineering; black metals.

Such famous American companies as Halliburton Halliburton, Schlumberger Schlumberger (Schlumberger Technology Company LLC), Baker-Hughes BakerHughes (Tyumen Oilfield Equipment LLC) work in the Tyumen Region.

The Agreement on the establishment of twin cities between the cities of Tyumen and Houston is in force.

January 28-30, 2014 - visit of US Consul General in Yekaterinburg Otto Hans Van Maerssen to Tyumen. Within the framework of the visit, an official meeting was held with the Governor of the Tyumen Region V.V. Yakushev, with the Commissioner for the Protection of the Rights of Entrepreneurs in the Tyumen Region L. Nevidailo and with the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Tyumen Region S. Minevtsev. During the visit, specific issues of bilateral investment and economic cooperation, joint educational and cultural-enlightenment projects, issues of the systematic development of partnerships between twin cities: Tyumen (RF) and Houston (Texas, USA) were discussed. The US Consul General in Yekaterinburg took part in the First Tyumen Investment Forum Investments and Industrialization.

On March 4, 2016, a delegation of representatives of the US Embassy in the Russian Federation (Moscow) and the US Consulate General in Yekaterinburg took part in the III Tyumen Investment Forum. Along with participation in the forum, the delegation visited the Representative Office of Lukoil Western Siberia LLC in Tyumen, the Tyumen State Oil and Gas University, met with the management of Zapsibkombank and other enterprises and institutions of the Tyumen region.

The forum is a non-governmental dialogue platform for discussing issues of bilateral trade, economic, interregional and cultural-humanitarian ties. During the visit, held: negotiations with the Governor of California, Edmund Brown, Jr.; meetings with the Consul General of the Russian Federation in San Francisco Sergey Petrov. The delegation visited the innovative enterprises of Silicon Valley (Google, AirBnb); Stanford Graduate School of Business and University of California.

On October 25, 2016, the Presentation of the investment potential of the Tyumen region was held for companies - members of the American Chamber of Commerce in Russia (AmChamRussia) in Moscow.

On May 23-26, 2017, as part of the Innovation Week, a delegation of the US Consulate General in Yekaterinburg headed by Consul General Marcus Mikeli visited Tyumen on a working visit. The delegation also included the Consul for Economics and Politics, Michael Ritchie, an employee of the Department of Economics, Michael Brodsky, and expert practitioner from the United States Dan Caffey.

The delegation of the US Consulate General took part in an expanded meeting of the Governor of the Tyumen region V.V. Yakushev with representatives of the diplomatic corps of Cyprus, China, France, Belarus, Germany. The governor presented the economic situation of the region, its potential and capabilities, outlined promising areas of cooperation.

On September 21-22, 2017, Paul Mack Carter , who took over the post of the U.S. Consul General in Yekaterinburg, took part in the VIII Tyumen Oil and Gas Forum.

On October 14-21, 2017, a delegation of authorized representatives of the Government of the Tyumen Region visited the United States of America. The purpose of the visit: the development of cooperation between the Tyumen region and the USA, attracting investors, participation in the Fort Ross Dialogue forum in San Francisco. Within the framework of the forum, a meeting was held with the Governor of the State of California, at which the following topics were discussed: Signing an Agreement of Cooperation between the Tyumen Region and the State of California and the appointment of a responsible representative from the Office of the Governor of California and the Government of the Tyumen Region to build ongoing joint work on education and the environment; Joining the Tyumen region to the Memorandum of Understanding Global Climate Leadership.

Five US students visited the leading infrastructure and industrial enterprises of the region, met with young entrepreneurs of Tyumen, representatives of government, public associations. During the meeting, participants learned about the key areas of development of the Tyumen region in the social sphere and business. Including an extensive cultural and sightseeing program was organized for graduate students, guests visited the Yalutorovsky Ostrog in the city of Yalutorovsk, where they learned about the cultural features and history of our country and the main attractions of Tyumen.

On September 16-19, 2019, representatives of the US Embassy in the Russian Federation took part in the Tyumen Oil and Gas Forum. In addition to forum events, representatives of the US embassy held a meeting in the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Tyumen Region with the participation of an employee of the Department of Investment Policy and State Support for Entrepreneurship of the Tyumen Region. The forms of entrepreneurship support that exist in the Tyumen region, the regions investment climate, the regions achievements in key sectors and plans for further strategic development, including the implementation of national projects, were discussed at the meeting. US Embassy employees also visited the Baker Hughes Oil Submersible Cable Plant (a venture with US investment).

On September 18, 2019, in Moscow, representatives of the Government of the Tyumen Region took part in the 19th Annual Investment Conference of the American Chamber of Commerce in Russia (AmCham) on the topic The digital world is here: are you ready?. At the opening of the conference, the US ambassador to Russia, John Huntsman, greeted the participants, who thanked the business associations that contributed to the positive development of bilateral relations and called for finding opportunities for interaction. He also expressed the hope that trust between our countries will still grow.

October 11, 2019 Head of the city of Tyumen R.N. Kuharuk took part in the First Russian-American Forum in Moscow. The forum was attended by representatives of municipalities of Russia, the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation and the delegation of the United States of America, led by Vice President of the International Association of United States of the United States of America Carol Lopez. During the plenary session, the Head of the city of Tyumen R.N.Kukharuk made a welcoming speech, a presentation on the economic, social and cultural development of the Tyumen region and the city of Tyumen and invited the American side to visit the city of Tyumen in 2020.

Educational cooperation

Universities of the Tyumen region have been developing international relations with US universities in various fields since 1992 through participation in international projects, implementation of bilateral treaties and agreements, cooperation with non-academic organizations, academic exchanges for individual grants, student exchanges.

Tyumen State University maintains ongoing cooperation with Stanford University, the University of Idaho. Together with Fox Valley Technical College, a joint economic development through participation in exchange in higher education project is being implemented.

Cooperation in the field of youth policy

With the support of the Government of the Tyumen Region annually, starting from 2015, the Tyumen segment of the Stanford Russian-American Forum is held.

The Stanford Russian-American Forum (Stanford US-RussiaForum) is a youth public organization within which students from leading universities in Russia and the USA have the opportunity to conduct joint research. The purpose of the forum is to maintain and strengthen cooperation in areas of mutual Russian-American interests. The project is aimed at introducing foreigners to the development of the economy and the social sphere, and contributing to a more complete picture of Russia through acquaintance with regional specifics.

The forum begins every year with a weekly conference in Moscow, in which participants meet with famous politicians, businessmen and public figures.

The Tyumen segment is part of the Russian Conference. The main organizers from the Tyumen side are the Department of Public Relations, Communications and Youth Policy, Tyumen State University, and the Center for Global Leadership Foundation for the Promotion of Educational Cooperation and Cultural Exchange.

Over the 4 years of the regional stage of the Stanford Russian-American Forum, more than 200 students and graduate students visited the Tyumen region. The program of the Tyumen segment annually includes a meeting with the Governor of the Tyumen region, visits to large industrial enterprises, foresight sessions, and a cultural program.

In 2019, the Tyumen segment was held from November 28 to December 1. Representatives of 8 countries: Russia, USA, Great Britain, Greece, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Australia, Bangladesh visited the cities of Tyumen and Tobolsk.
